I made some granola this morning. There's a recipe I really like on MrBreakfast.com called Coconut Granola. Although I remembered that my oven cooks a LOT faster than most recipes call for, I always seem to forget just how much when it comes to granola. So it's a little browner than I'd like, but otherwise very tasty.
And for some reason, I found myself thinking about high-school popluarity. I didn't experience anything like what I've read in dozens of high school books (especially those set in earlier decades). There were simply groups, and cliques within those groups, and people who were mostly loners but still had groups. While some groups were more visible (sports people for example), it didn't really seem as though any one group of people was exalted. For example, in my senior year, the homecoming queen was a genuinely nice girl that everybody liked and who wasn't skinny or even drop dead gorgeous. She was a normal girl who did a lot of graphic arts and I believe, ASB. Homecoming king was a drama queen and choir guy who was very witty and whose sexual preference was always ambiguous. Neither of them was in sports or cheerleading but they won anyway. I love that about my school. Now, perhaps it was merely the fact that poplularity was wholly unimportant to me in the scheme of things that I perceived things this way. Or perhaps my school was better adjusted than those I see in books, tv, and movies.
Alicia, Katrina, you both went there too. What do you think?
